Christmas Vases – DIY Decorations for the Holidays

Christmas Vases – DIY Decorations for the Holidays

One simple way to create some new decorations for the holidays is by filling clear glass containers with various items.  From basic jars to large vases, there are so many possibilities to this easy decor.

Imagine a large jar of herbs and pinecones.  Picture a vase full of bells and bows.  Or here is what I made seven years ago.

These three vases were left over from our wedding centerpieces.  We had a different size/shape clear vase in the middle of every guest table and filled them full of pretty fruit combinations.  We are proud of our beautiful, intimate, and wonderful wedding…and mostly how frugal and homemade the whole bash was.  Plus folks were kind of excited to take home free fruit!

So the Christmas after we got married, back when I was feeling particularly giddy to start being a little homemaker (may I have that energy and excitement back now, please?!).  I stuffed a fake floral garland I had previously bought from Michael’s craft store in the one (here is something similar on Amazon) and threw in some blue ornament bulbs.

That was kind of fun, so I used whatever other Christmas decorations we had on hand (wasn’t much) and added tinsel and some more bulbs to another one.  For the third vase, I thought a silver bead garland would look nice with the green ornaments.  And that was that.

I ended up liking them so much that I just place a piece of saran wrap over the top and store away to use again each Christmas.  These have been part of our holiday decor for seven years now!  It would be easy to change these vases with different textured items throughout other seasons as well.  Halloween vases, Easter vases, Fourth of July, etc.  Someday I will get around to that, but I’d love to see your creations in the meantime!  Happy decorating!
